A website can look fine and still lose you work. The visitors who leave without contacting you do not tell you why, so the problem stays invisible. These are the mistakes we see most often on small and local business sites, and each one is possible to check yourself.
1. The contact form does not deliver
This is the most damaging mistake because it is silent. A form can look perfect, show a "thank you" message, and never send anything to your inbox. It can break when an email setting changes, when a plugin updates, or because it was never configured correctly. Test it today. Fill it in from a phone, then confirm the message actually reaches you, and repeat every few months.
2. The site is hard to use on a phone
Most local searches happen on mobile. Common problems are text that is too small, buttons too close together, menus that do not open, and layouts that overflow the screen. Open your site on your own phone and try to do what a customer would do, such as find your number and call it or request a quote.
3. Your phone number is not tappable
If a visitor has to copy a number and switch to another app to call, some will not bother. A phone number should be a link that starts a call in one tap, and it should be visible without scrolling.
4. It is not clear what you do or where
Visitors should understand within seconds what you offer, who it is for and where you work. A vague headline such as "Solutions for your business" forces people to guess. Say it plainly, including your location if you serve a local area. Adelaide businesses that say so on the page help both customers and search engines place them.
5. The site is slow
Large images and unnecessary code can make a site crawl on mobile data. People leave slow pages, and search engines take speed into account. Compress images, remove anything you do not use, and test on a phone connection, not only on office wifi.
6. There is no evidence you are real
Buyers want to see that other people have used you and been satisfied. Missing names, no photos of real work, no reviews and no contact details all make a business look thin. If you do not have case studies yet, start collecting reviews and photos of finished jobs, and add them as you go.
7. Search engines cannot understand the pages
Even a good-looking site can be hard for search engines to read. Common causes are duplicate or missing page titles, no clear headings, thin pages and content that only appears after scripts run. The fundamentals are simple: each page needs a distinct title and description, one clear main heading, and text that describes what the page is about. A quick self-check
Go through this list with your own site:
- Submit your contact form and confirm the message arrives
- Open the site on a phone and try to call, book or request a quote
- Load the homepage on mobile data and note how long it takes
- Read the first screen and ask whether a stranger would know what you do and where
- Look for real photos, names, reviews and contact details
- Search for your business name and check that your pages show sensible titles
When the fix is bigger than a checklist
Some of these problems are quick. Others, like fragile code, slow pages that will not speed up and forms that keep breaking, need someone to look under the hood. That is what our website fixes service is for. It starts with a free audit, so you find out what is actually wrong before you decide what to do about it.
